I am Culture Clues, a singer-songwriter living in Osaka. I'm originally from England, I grew up in several places, and finally near London, so I have a southern accent. My family background is Scottish and Irish.

私はカルチャー・クルーズと申します。大阪に住んでいるシンガーソングライターです。元々はイングランド出身で、いろいろな場所で育ち、最終的にはロンドン近郊で育ったので、南部なまりがあります。家系的にはスコットランドとアイルランドにルーツがあります。

After living in Japan for a few years, I've realised that understanding English has two parts for Japanese people (in much the same way as understanding Japanese has two parts for English speakers).

日本に数年住んでみて、日本の方々にとって英語を理解するには二つの側面があることに気づきました(英語話者にとって日本語を理解するのにも二つの側面があるのと同じように)。

• Understanding the language itself
Understanding the culture.

• 言語そのものを理解すること
• 文化を理解すること

Imagine someone who could speak perfect Japanese but didn't understand any of the social rules, any of the history - they didn't even know that people eat rice and use chopsticks! I feel that part is missing from English education in Japan, so I hope to bring some of that to you here.

完璧な日本語を話せるのに、社会的なルールも歴史も何も理解していない、お米を食べることや箸を使うことさえ知らない人を想像してみてください!日本の英語教育にはその部分が欠けているように感じるので、ここで皆さんにそういった要素をお届けできればと思っています
